Longleaf Environmental has performed Threatened & Endangered Species Surveys throughout Florida and the southeast. Our firm has worked for state agencies, local municipalities, power companies and private landowners on a variety of property types.

We are Registered Gopher Tortoise Agents with the Florida Wildlife Commission and have significant experience at identifying Gopher Tortoise Boroughs, educating clients about setbacks to structures and relocating tortoises when there is no other option. Our scientists also look for Bald Eagle Nests, Scrub Jay Habitat, Florida Sand Skinks, Indigo Snakes and other protected species.

COMPLETED PROJECT EXAMPLES

Species Survey: Chiefland, Florida

Longleaf Environmental was contracted to perform a Threatened & Endangered Species Survey and Phase I ESA for a power co-op on approximately 10 acres of land in Cheifland, Florida. Our staff reviewed the approximate property boundaries and aerial images prior to mobilizing to the site. Upon arrival, we determined the property boundaries and began our field survey.

Portions of the property that were wooded were inspected in a grid-like fashion on foot. A driving tour was performed in the open, cleared portions of the property. Our staff flagged locations where we observed gopher tortoise burrows and used Global Positioning System (GPS) software to plot all locations. We produced a detailed assessment report for our client which was submitted to the USDA and FWC to document our work.
